The Story of Light of Grace

I heard the Lord ask me to open a sober home.  Several years later He asked me to call it Light of Grace based upon Danny Gokey’s song “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again”

Some of the lyrics of the song:

You’re shattered
Like you’ve never been before
The life you knew
In a thousand pieces on the floor
And words fall short in times like these
When this world drives you to your knees
You think you’re never gonna get back
To the you that used to be

Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of grace (emphasis supplied)
Yesterday’s a closing door
You don’t live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you’ve been
And tell your heart to beat again

When I heard these lyrics, I cried uncontrollably as they reflected the heart of the Father.  He wants you to step into the light of grace and as you do, the past fall away and the new is born.

Healing is not just sobriety…

Healing is learning how to let your heart beat again, live again, love again.

Danny Gokey’s song “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again” is really what Jesus keeps saying to every person who walks through the doors at Light of Grace — especially those who feel like they are broken too far, messed up too deeply, or wasted too much time.

The lyric says:

Yesterday’s a closing door — you don’t live there anymore…

Jesus said the same thing long before the song was ever written.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
— John 8:36 (NKJV)

The past is not your location anymore.
It is a place God rescued you from — not a place you return to.

Your New Journey

In the song, the lyrics continue:

Beginning
Just let that word wash over you
It’s alright now
Love’s healing hands have pulled you through
So get back up, take step one
Leave the darkness, feel the sun
Cause your story’s far from over
And your journey’s just begun

Let every heartbreak
And every scar
Be a picture that reminds you
Who has carried you this far
‘Cause love sees farther than you ever could
In this moment heaven’s working
Everything for your good

This is a new beginning.  God does not want you to be stuck in your past. He wants you to go forward into the wonderful future that He planned for you from the beginning of time, your Kingdom assignment.  For He knows the plans that He has for you, good plans, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you,” but “to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11.

Jesus Speaks Resurrection to Hearts Not Just Bodies

In the song he says:

Tell your heart to beat again…

Jesus does this constantly.

Not just on dead people physically…

but dead hearts emotionally… spiritually… relationally.

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
— John 10:10 (NKJV)

Jesus doesn’t just want you breathing.
He wants your life back.

He wants your joy back.
Your hope back.
Your identity back.

Your purpose back.
Your assignment back.

Addiction tried to stop that heartbeat… numb it… suffocate it…

But Jesus restores the rhythm.

Jesus Doesn’t Shame Your Yesterday — He Heals It

Another lyric says:

Let every heartbreak and every scar be a picture that reminds you who has carried you this far…

Jesus never weaponizes scars.
He transforms them into testimony.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)

Your scars do not disqualify you here.

Your scars prove you survived what tried to kill you.

This Is Why Light of Grace Exists

Light of Grace is not a place to prove yourself worthy.

It is a place to let Jesus breathe again in you… gently… daily… quietly… deeply.

He is not standing here demanding perfection…

He is standing here inviting resurrection.

“Behold, I make all things new.”
— Revelation 21:5 (NKJV)

Not patched up.
Not held together by willpower.
New.
